A s C a r o l e Badgley, curator, and A n n e L o v e c o - c u r a t o r , e x p l o r e d the B o u d o i r t h e m e and its meaning w i t h many o f the artists, the s c o p e a n d d i r e c t i o n o f t h e e x h i b i t w e r e constantly evolving. A b o u d o i r p r i n t making, lamps and s c o n c e s , b o w l s , vessels, jewellery, and o t h e r manifestations o f the g l a s s w o r k e r s ' milieu. is a dressing r o o m , a b e d r o o m , a sitting r o o m -- a l l different and valid c o n c e p t s -- b u t m o s t essentially, it is a p r i v a t e , and f o r the m o s t part, intimate, d o m a i n . By challenging each artist t o address this t h e m e in his o r h e r o w n m e d i u m and artistic d i r e c t i o n , a fascinating s h o w has e m e r g e d . R o o m - d i v i d e r s c r e e n s c r e a t e c o z y r o m a n t i c c o r n e r s by N o r t h V a n c o u v e r quilter and a u t h o r G a i l Jubenvill w a s b o r n and raised o n t h e N o r t h S h o r e and has been b l o w i n g glass since 1993 and l a m p w o r k i n g since 1995. A n a c c o m p l i s h e d w e a v e r and potter, Jubenvill came t o glass after seeing it b l o w n in Venice. She n o w b l o w s glass at A n d r i g h e t t i G l a s s w o r k s , w h e r e she often c o l l a b o r a t e s w i t h o t h e r artists t o c r e a t e h e r g r o w i n g b o d y of w o r k . . H e r most recent w o r k incorporates w h i m s i c a l p r e p a i n t e d shards w h i c h are p i c k e d up o n t o m o l t e n glass and b l o w n o u t i n t o " b u g b o w l s . " Jubenvill's l a m p w o r k i n g skills are evid e n t in h e r " M o o n M a r i g o l d s " -- fancifully s t o p p e r e d vessels, c o l o u r f u l and e s o t e r i c i n t e r p r e t a t i o n s of f l o r a and fauna. B r o c k C r a i g first e x p e r i m e n t e d w i t h v a r i o u s ways of w o r k i n g w i t h glass b e f o r e settling o n fusing as his p r i m a r y m e a n s of e x p r e s s i o n . H e had the g o o d f o r t u n e t o study w i t h many of the p i o n e e r s in c o n t e m p o r a r y fusing and has taught n u m e r o u s fusing c o u r s e s in C a n a d a and the U n i t e d States.
