So in the course of a simple stroll, the public can enjoy the w o r k of numerous artists. In addition, artists and galleries are opening their doors for studio tours, during which visitors can get an intimate and educational look at the creative process. O n e W e s t Vancouver artist who is particularly appreciative of the festival's open-door system is Ursula Medley, a third-generation painter and muralist w h o paints with the Medieval process of egg tempura, using the O l d Master method of mixing pure pigment powders with egg yolk. Medley's current subject matter is flowers, specifically tulips in transformation. "I'm fascinated by how beautiful they get as they get older," she says. "These days, I'm looking for the beauty within, rather than at surface beauty." You may have seen Medley's murals at St. Paul's Hospital, the Empress Hotel, Science W o r l d , Lions bringing artists to their immediate accessibility and demystifying the process a little bit," claims Medley. "I think the Harmony A r t s Festival is a wonderful thing--particularly in the support that we get from the merchants.There's so much creativity on the N o r t h Shore, and it's really important to our c o m m u nity that we can bring it out this way." Even more artwork will be exhibited on August 7 to 9, along Argyle Avenue at the O u t d o o r Craft Market.This juried craft show (tented) will offer a variety of works in glass, w o o d , ceramics, leather, and textiles, plus photography, jewellery, and pottery. Also, from 6-7 pm on Saturday, August 8, youth entertainer Peggy Stokes will lead performances by the younger set at the Silk Purse Gallery.This is the opening of the Kids A r t s Exhibition, where you can view the works of the K - 6 crowd (its theme is Coffee House). A l s o kid-related is Creative Kids Day, a day of hands-on arts and craft activities in various media.
