people file West Vancouver artist Ross Penhall's (right) career is on fire, but this is one flame the professional firefighter of 16 years North Vancouver resident Reine Mihtla (above) was the only female Canadian photographer honoured at the 1996 / 2th Annual NikonlPDN Magazine Self-Promotion Awards. Mihtla, a graduate of the Emily Can Institute of Art and Design program, picked up her first-place award for the best ongoing campaign, new talent Examples of her work are pictured right (her business card) and below. One result from sending out her self-promotion pieces was being hired by a group in New York to photograph Elizabeth Taylor when she was in Vancouver. Since receiving the award she has been contacted by a Pennsylvania design company and a Boston stock agency. Incidentally, Mihtla also shot this issue's photograph of the editor. lyvvi tyi u doesn't want to put out. Penhall's recent solo show at the Buschlen Mowatt Gallery (which currently represents him) sold out before the show opened (!) and was included in the book G r e a t W o r k !
