music L«he fact that girls just want the Th opportunity to sing was loud and clear for Gerald van Wyck and Linda Humphries, both of West Vancouver, when they held an audition last summer for a new North Shore girls choir. Celesta Girls' Choir. They hoped for 40 interested girls and were overwhelmed when over 150 turned out. Van Wyck. conductor of the British Columbia Boys Choir and West Vancouver United Church Choir, is a teacher and conductor for choral at Vancouver Community College and had. along with Humphries, been thinking about forming a girls choir for some time. Van Wyck was constantly getting requests by parents who wanted the same musical experience for their daughters as the boys were receiving. At the same time. Humphries, who has assisted with the music program at Irwin Park Elementary School Girls, Just Wanna Sing Too for a number of years, was witnessing the grow ing enthusiasm in young female singers. The Celesta Girls' Choir is open to North Shore girls between the ages of 9 and 19 who love to sing, want the opportunity to learn how to read music and develop their voices and performance skills in an environment of musical excellence. The goal of the choir is to foster a love of singing and an appreciation of sacred and secular musical styles of all ages.
