Cyberspace gallery exhibitions, programs, events and Information on the range of services ihe VAG offers. I viewed Ihe site on opening day and liked Ihe rather cool design by WebWorks. The Home Page for the site allows you lo wander inlo Ihree different areas: What to See, What to Do and What to Get. Under "What to See," pull-down menus are available for the viewer to select among collections and exhibitions. I opted for "Photography and Beyond in Japan." There is a brief, written summary and images of the collection. The images are small enough for reasonable download time and are linked to JPEGs for the viewer who wants more. The JPEGs have good resolution and provide a clear indication of "the real thing." "Things to Get" included information on membership, VAG lottery tickets, renting artworks and services available through the Gallery Cafe. The links provide an overview of services but no hard numbers as in the case of the "Renting Art" section. The "Things for Free" was the only item not yet linked to information. "Things lo Do" included pulldown menus with information about lectures, school programs, event listings, how lo become a member, rent the gallery (sounds like "Things lo Get" in disguise) as well as visit the library. Overall, this new site is easy to surf, the clean design is refreshing and Ihe VAG is to be commended for getting wired into the '90s. In Brief: There is a new (copycat) site for actors to get exposure. This rather unexciting site (hltp://ITONLINE.COM) has a Home Page that appears to be a bit of a commercial grab with a pseudo-Yellow Pages listings along with the actual link for actors called Interface Telecasting ON-LINE. The site has listings sorted by gender and age. The information on the actors includes a headshot and a resume of acting credits, skills and contact information.^"® OOOPS W e b - by Gloria R e v i e w s Loree he Vancouver Cultural Alliance (VCA) got wired this summer and has recently been named as the "hot site of the week" by the editors at Canadian Almanac & Directory. The site (http://www.ffa.ucalgary.ca/vca /index/htm) is currently getting over 1,400 hits a month and is one of the coolest services the V C A offers its members. The V C A is a not-for-profit organization with over 175 members from the performing, visual media and literary arts, and its goal includes promoting the activities of the professional arts through its programs and services. > ¿5 < Z Its site goes a long way in achieving this goal. The information now available on the site, which has a fairly simple and clean design by Keith Higgins, Member Services manager at the V C A , is very useful. And useful anything refreshing change. Its Home Page offers access to the Arts Hotline (the week's arts events in Vancouver broken-down by discipline), the V C A HotSheets which are arts-related news bulletins published by the V C A , its quarterly newsletter and a list of interesting arts sites. A l l of its members are listed in an "Index of the Arts in Vancouver" which can be searched alphabetically or by discipline. Members' information includes a synopsis of the group, their contact numbers and in many cases, a visual image. I found the site user friendly and the small or simple images are respectful of those of us who still using a 14.4 modem.
