The artist designs the page or pays to have one done. Other services included in the fees are a web page, an order form for viewers and an e-mail address. N W H Q is a magazine o f art and literature presented in hypermedia, featuring contributors from all over the Net (world). N W H Q writes they are "a publication devoted to free expression and the distribution of artistic ideas." They are independent artists and support independent artists. The publication is designed and illustrated by Vancouver-based Elizabeth Fischer. Another site listed under the Magazine Shop is actually a virtual gallery. P i x e l Pushers, which signed on a number of world renowned digital artists for their exhibition o f original digital art. The cyberspace gallery is maintained in Vancouver by Kent Barrett of General Electric. The real space gallery is curated and organized by L o r i Shyba of Sundial M e d i a in Calgary. (Ken Brown, whose digital art appears on the cover of this issue, has his work displayed in Pixel recording and distribution services as well as a real rehearsal space. "Incubus magazine is dedicated to the local artist. We are here to e l i m i nate the social, artistic and cultural barriers that exist in the local art scene today" says editor Christian Ditchfield. "There are a lot o f companies doing the same thing, but I find most of them are in it for their own monetary gain. We believe all artists should have some means o f expressing themselves - whether they have a lot of financing or not - hence the creation of Incubus. It is a co-op o f artists to provide services for each other." MUSIC Everyone from small independent labels to the multinational record companies like Sony and Geffen are going on-line and setting up web sites for their top acts. Posters and C D sleeves now include site locations and e-mail addresses for fans to dial into. Vancouver-based performers you can dial include Barney Bentall, d.b.s., k.d. lang and Sick Sick Yeah. C l u b s like the Town Pump are catching on to this marketing trend. Town P u m p Live Wire (http://www.musicwest.com/pump/) is a new site which has information about the club, upcoming events and schedules of bands as well as a regular newsletter. One of the features is an archived site for new and emerging talent. For a fee. bands w i l l be able to present text, images and sound clips in the form o f a digital bio. Live Wire says they w i l l actively seek out exposure for the bands through the new media of the W W W . providing feedback and support. This site is a result of a partnership with Bosh Entertainment Group Inc. which is an artist management company. Bosh's association with Town Pump Live Wire can only help musicians careers says Bosh's president, Don Osborn. "There is more exposure for bands, as well as excellent marketing opportunities. Because of our music publishing strengths, we can get publishing rights for bands and ensure they are paid for all royalties earned. We bring experience to the table and can plug the artist in at a regional, national or international level." Incubus states they are "a cooperative of working artists whose common goal is to provide the resources necessary for the growth of artistic expression, without providing the inaccessible attitude traditionally associated with the publishing, arts and entertainment industries." They have a number of projects underway which include Incubus Magazine, a 64-page four-colour "real" issue featuring local artists, scheduled to come out this fall. Incubus has plans for an on-line magazine, video production, digital local and international artists, writers, poets; a little humour (comics & cartoons), some serious stuff (environment & peacel; and a few unexpected things.
