To be selected for the scholarship, students must have demonstrated accomplishment and commitment to the Arts in their school and the Community on to post secondary education. At their school's June graduation ceremo nies, JENNIFER MOSS from West Van couver Secondary and CHRISSIE WOR THY of Sentinel Secondary each won the $750 award. JENNIFER MOSS has been a member of the Vancouver Youth Theater, the Bach Children's Choir and a director of Youth Art Works. She is West Vancouver Secon dary School's first international baccalau reate Art and Design graduate with top honors with distinction and plans to study journalism in University. CHRISSIE WORTHY is the top art student at Sentinel Secondary School. She has completed two advanced placement portfo lios in art and specializes in airbrush work in her design and graphics. She will con tinue her studies at the Ontario Collage of Art. The West Vancouver Community Arts Council hired a new administrator in June, Illene Pevec, of North Vancouver. Illene has been active in the North Shore arts community in the past few years as one of the founding members of the Miramar summer arts program for children and as the host of Arts Access for a year and a half. Illene very much enjoys the opportunity to meet with local artists and become familiar with their work and looks forward to doing a lot of that in her new job. Since starting her work for the WVCAC Illene has had several meetings with Cathy Matheson, the Cultural Coordinator for West Vancouver, members of the arts council and interested community members to plan the move to the house at 1570 Argyle which the District of West Vancouver has pur chased for the Arts in the community. This new arts center will be easily accessible by foot, car and bus traffic. The beautiful loca tion will make it a natural destination for people wishing to get information about local arts in the Arts Promotion Office, for those wishing high quality classes in the studio and for those wanting to share their ideas, poetry, music and plans for the arts in the reception area. Illene finds this plan ning for a new and unique home for the arts to be similar to writing and staging a new play or choreographing a new dance. "We have a new facility offered to us and we will make it a wonderful place to be and expand the role of Klee Wyck in the community as well." When the WVCAC made its appli cation for an operating grant from the Dis trict of West Vancouver, it stated that an Artist-in-Residence program for the schools would be a priority of the Arts Council. Illene looks forward to exploring all the possibilities of establishing such a program for the children and parents of West Van couver. ATTENTION ALL WVCAC MEMBERS We need your input. As we plan our move to the 1570 Argyle house known as "The Silk Purse" we need to know what YOUR NEEDS ARE AS MEM BERS. The new house will be a com munity facility. Klee Wyck will con tinue to be available to member groups for their meetings and activities. We want to know what you as individual and group members need and want from both facilities as we change our place of operations. What do you want to see happening? Please bring your ideas IN WRITING to the WVCAC Annual General Meeting on Tues day, September 12th at 7:30 p.m. 5
