Introducing West Vancouver Stories by Laura Anderson. project coordinator For the first time the stories and memories of the people who built West Vancouver will be formally collected and preserved for the use, education, and enjoyment of our community. West Vancouver Historical Society is recording the stories and memories of long time residents. Their personal perspectives will contribute to the record of West Vancouver's history and development. Laura Anderson, project coordinator, paraphrases Imbert Orchard, BC's pioneering oral historian, "With West Vancouver Stories we are getting a glimpse of history not made, but being made." This phase of the of the West Vancouver Stories oral history project will focus on the years leading up to World War II, the home front during the war and the years after, when the community began to grow. The goal is to expand the project to include as many residents of West Vancouver as possible, and ultimately to help other organizations, individuals, and families conduct their own oral histories. By sharing their stories and memories, the people who built our community are creating a valuable resource for historians and researchers and giving West Vancouver a lasting legacy.
