The District of West Vancouver committed to paying half of the estimated cost of nearly $55,000. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) was asked to contribute one third or $18,000. Because DFO was unable to find a "funding mechanism" before the grant completion deadline of June 30, 2016, our Society requested an extension from Heritage BC. They kindly moved the deadline to August 31, 2016. Finally on July 22nd, DFO confirmed their "funding mechanism" and provided the $i8,ooo. This late date leaves the District little time to secure a contract and have the painting completed by the deadline. The West Van Historical Society has asked Heritage BC to extend the grant deadline once again to September 30th. Stay tuned Elaine Graham
