West Vancouver Visual Arts Society is pleased to award scholarships in the amount of $400 each to Cathy Schecter of North Vancouver, a third year student at Emily Carr Art School, planning to become an art teacher; and Geoffrey Topham of West Vancouver, a first year student also at Emily Carr Art School. The grant money is generated by a trust fund which is held by the West Van couver Visual Arts Society in the West Vancouver Foundation. North Shore Photographic Club in its fourth year of existence, captured the coveted Elder Trophy awarded by the National Association of Photographic Art to the club achieving the highest points over three competitions in a year. 42 clubs across Canada participated in the 1989 colour slide competition in which the North Shore Photographic Club ob tained a total of 374 points, some 11 ahead of its nearest rival. The achieve ment is all the more noteworthy as this is the first time the trophy has been won by a club in British Columbia in the 21 years of existence of the competition.
