NOVEMBER 2008 NEWSLETTER PAGE? Minutes of Annual General Meeting Wednesday, November 12, 2008 West Vancouver Serors' Centre Jacqule Manning President The meeting started promptly at 7pm. Jocqule congratulated all members involved in AFAS citing excellent quality of amazing artists. All jobs were wet done and all involved were very committed. She requested that members email her over the next few weeks with comments and suggestions re the show. Minutes of previous meeting adopted by Shelley James and seconded by Phyllis MacKinnon. - Awards $400 each were given to Christine Von (sp?) at Capilano University and Lindsay Grey isp?) at UBC, A very appreciative letter was received form Lindsay which will be shared in the newsletter. - People's Choice award --Ferry Building was awarded to Liz Dufresne People's Choice award --for Harmony Arts was awarded to Maryam Rois Rohani Coffee and cookie now costs $1.50. Costs have been exceeding our consumption, to get a handle on this it will now be served by Barb, Georgina and Sylvia. Jacquie thanked Jayne St. John for her CD photo contribution which will be put on the website. Jacquie stressed that the demos will start promptly at 8pm sharp and end at 9.1 5pm. She asked that people refrain from talking during the demo and leave via the back of the room if they need to leave early. Edith Warner Exhibitions The AFAS was a big success. Detailed info, will follow in the newsletter. There was a7% increase in visits; 5% increase in artist entries. 132 artists entered 789 paintings. Gross value sold was $33,000., excluding PST. A question was asked about having a 2 day show. A debriefing of the show will occur shortly and all suggestions will be taken into consideration. Norm Vipond Vice President (and acting treasurer) Stated that things were looking financially good, and approx. equal to last year at this time. Norm asked for members' patience in his new position as temporary treasurer. Larry Achtemlchuk Post President An Advertising company has requested art with the subject of `Part of Vancouver. Ther aim is to show what a good corporate citizen the port is. Club members are eligible to submit photo subjects of their artwork, relative to the port, to Larry who will assemble an online gallery on our website for the company to select paintings. You need only send in a photo if you do nat already have it on the website) The deadline is Nov 26. The advertising company will pay $1000 per painting, and will sell it and give the money to charity. Larry will be developing a Guild photo album on the Home page of the website. He thanked Jayne St. John for her contribution. A proposal will be made to the N. S. Community An Gallery in the next few weeks. We should know in Feb if we are accepted. It is the Gallery's 40th.anniversary and NSAG 25yr.anniversary as one of the gallery's members. Suggestions for possible themes are "Looking Forward, Looking Back" and "Light." A jurying will be done by our guild and the gallery will make the final selection. If accepted the show would likely take place for July and August. Larry will try to do some photographic workshops in Dec or Jan. to teach artists how to take photos of their work. Email Larry if interested. He will also put on a refresher course in managing the website. June Harmon Education Demo artist tonight is Lori Goldberg demonstrating multiple techniques in acrylics. In January the Demo artist will be Adrienne Moore. Susan Goodeve Membership 5 new members enrolled tonight. Printed roster copies will be available at check in desk for those who do not hove a comouter. New Business Rosemary Goodwin is showing at Cafe Crema and on Betlevue and l5.
