MEMOF November 2008 Newsletter Inside This Issue 1 2 2 Message from the Presideni Message from the President Greetings everyone. Christmas is around the corner and our Annual Fine Art Show and Sale was a great way to kick off the season. And what a success it was! The organizers were a bit concerned that with the gloomy economic climate purchasing paintings would be near the bottom of everyone's list of priorities. But it appeared not. Many people told me they thought the quality of the paintings was far better than those at last year's show. I thought the quality was superlative last year! So, "kudos" to everyone who exhibited this year and "eat your heart out, Vancouver Art Galleryl" I would like to thank all the committee captains who worked so hard and did such a fantastic job of organizing and pulling off this terrific event: Larry Achtemichuk, Project Manager: Edith Warner, Exhibitions; Norm Vipond. Finances: Karole Doucette, Publicity: Florence Allardice, Raffle and Heather Luccock, Information Booth. All the captains hod incredible "side kicks" as well as a cast of thousands necessary to successfully choreographing an exhibition of this magnitude. They also deserve much praise and huge `thanks". You can see who all these folks were by accessing our website. Each year we give $400 scholarships to students in the Fine Arts Departments at U.B.C. and Capilano College. This year the Sam Black Award (U.B.C) went to Lindsay Gray and the Cap College award went to Christine Joanna Van Ziffle. I congratulate both of them. We also offer them a years free membership to our guild. So join me in travelling onwards and upwards in our artistic journey together. There's lots of good stuff instore for the new year. See you (with bells on) at the Christmas party Wednesday, December 10th. Respectfully submitted, Jacquie Manning President PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS WILL NOW BE ON THE 2ND Wednesday OF EACH MONTH (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF JULY AND AUGUST)!
