OCTOBER 2008 NEWSLETTER Minutes of Annual General Meeting Wednesday, October 8, 2008 West Vancouver Seniors Centre Call meeting to order Jacquie welcomed everyone to our beautiful new location. Motion to adopt minutes from last meeting. Jayne St. John motioned. Marguerite Mahy seconded. Carried. -- PAGE 9 Awards from last jurying: Peter Baxter-- Gas Town". Unfortunately Peter is not present so his award was not presented. -- Directors' Reports: President: Jacquie Manning Search for Treasurer Larry to address this later in meeting. Patricia Windsor is back from her holidays and has agreed to take care of the payables and continue to work with Christine Mullins. We need to vote to give Patricia signing authority on our account while Victor is recuperating. Jacquie motioned: Due to the absence of a treasure, be it resolved that Patricia Windsor be given signing authority until a new treasurer is found. Alannah Haynes seconded. Carried. GIC's : We will cash in a matured GIC to underwrite AFAS expenses. The money will be reinvested after our Nov.9, 2008 Annual Fine Arts Show. Victor, Jacquie and the banking team will be meeting at the bank tomorrow to cash in our maturing GIG. This is to ensure we have enough money to underwrite our AFAS expenses. Right after the sale this money will be reinvested into a new GIG. Alannah Haynes, our bookkeeper, has agreed to look after the finances for the AFAS and also to help with our treasurer committee until Victor's return. -- - Vice President: Norm Vipond Floor staffing for AFAS sales, security, greeters. The roster is now full and Norm thanked everyone for volunteering. There are also spares. Norm has a copy of the schedule for everyone who has volunteered and this will be available at the break. -- -- Corresponding Secretary and Archives: Marguerite Mahy -- no report. Past President: Larry Achtemichuk Klee Wyck painting groups, Wednesday and Thursday, have room for more people. There will be an opportunity for $10 drop-ins before Xmas for those who want to try this studio time on for size. This is our last meeting before the AFAS. Larry summarized the various ways of promoting our shows mailouts, posters, media, and members inviting friends and contacts personally. Larry asked for members to join the computer committee to help input contact names from the Peoples choice ballots. - -- Exhibitions: Edith Warner Ferry Building Exhibition Opening last night had a great turnout. The show looks great and two paintings sold during the opening. There ore posters available for this show which goes on until the 18th of Oct. On Saturday, all artists in the show are invited to be present at 2pm for a meet and greet. Pickup time is Sunday, Oct 19th at 5pm (no sooner). AFAS Thank you to all who have volunteered. On Saturday, November 8th, volunteers should get to the information table first to pick up nametags. Drop-off is from 7-9pm on the 8th and Edith asked that people stagger times so everyone is not arriving at 7pm. Shopping carts can be borrowed from Safeway to transport paintings. Paintings need to be labeled on the back with name, phone number, etc. Bios need to be updated. Please bring updated bios to Jonna Kumi. Bios can even be taped onto the back of the painting. No security wires are needed for this show. Pickup time will be 5:05 Sunday, November 9th· Please don't take paintings early as this does not send a good message to the public. NO WET PAINTINGS! Original art only. Hangers need to be present at 7:30, but this will be confirmed after our meeting next week. Bev Ostland from the Parkgate community centre is here tonight as a member and Jacquie commended her on all her help last year. - -- - -- -
