PAGE 2 MAY 2008 NEWSLETTER Workshops: Hello Everyone, Our last workshop for the year was held on May 24/25 at Klee Wyck. Suzanne Northcott was the instructor for this popular workshop. The 2007/2008 workshop year has been very successful with quite a variety of workshops that appealed to many members. We all learned a lot and look forward to a new set of instructors for nextyear. If any mambers have suggestions for workshop instructors that they believe are amazing and would excite many of us, please let either Jeri or Frieda know soon. The new workshop Coordinators for next year are already beginning to make phone cal Is. Jeri Canderan Workshop Coordinator Exhibitions The owner of the Vitamin House, 2470 Marine drive, is interested in having "on going shows" of local artists. Caroline Kuwica exhibited there for two months and although there were no sales, interest in the art was expressed by customers. If anyone wishes to exhibit at the Vitamin House contact Ann Archer, Owner, at 604-922-0433. CityScape Art Space Larry Achtemichuk and I met with Linda Feil, Executive Director, North Vancouver Arts Council, and Florene Belmont who coordinates the exhibitions at CityScape Art Space in North Vancouver. The meeting was very useful in that we got a good understanding of their process and criteria for jurying a show. We were also able to explain to them our process for jurying as well. One of their main objectives is to have range and variety in the shows. For this reason Linda felt that our theme proposal would not fly given their current and recent plans. Linda was supportive of our name change to North Shore Artists' Guild, reflecting the fact thatour membership encompasses both North and West Vancouver. We shared the relative successes we have had being involved with the Harmony Arts Festival and our first Annual Fine Art Sale. We also said that we could contribute to the process through our web site and the contacts we have made through the "Peoples Choice Awards" at our various shows. Linda suggested that we forego this cycle and prepare to apply (with her advice and input) in October for a show next Spring. The same jurors who would be adjudicating this month, will also be adjudicating again in November 2008.. We will continue to work on your behalf to enter a proposal in the Fall.
