PAGE 2 APRIL 2008 NEWSLETTER As many of you know, fellow artist and musician extraordinaire, Charlotte Grundig, is baffling some health problems, and is now at home. However, what you may not know is that she has just been nominated in the Arts, Culture and Design category for YWCA Vancouver's 2008 Women of Distinction Award. This award has been awarded for the past 25 years, and I am sure we speak for all NSAG members in congratulating Charlotte on this honor and offering our support and best wishes for her personally. Exhibitions Jurying. We will accept unframed acrylic paintings with a minimum wrap around canvass depth of 7/8" and up. However, there must be no staples and the sides need to be painted Edith is ready to receive your jury entries any time. Please follow the previously published instructions which can be reviewed on the website under "Information for Members". If you submit via email you will receive a return email confirming receipt of your entry. Members who wish to send in their own photographs may do so. Please check the instructions for jurying in the March newsletter or on the web site. www.nsartists.ca Ongoing Shows. Any artists who have paintings at St. Stephen's can pick them up at next month's meeting (May 20) between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. Caroline Kuwica has been in touch with St. Stephen's and has advised them that there may not be any more paintings after May 20. However, if anyone does want to hang a painting at St. Stephen's please contact Caroline Kuwica (604-925-2923 or email: caroline©kuwica.net) or myself and it can be brought to the May 20 meeting. Caroline will be pleased to arrange for the "take down" and hanging (if any) on May 20. City Scape. Thank you to the members who sent in suggested themes for a proposed exhibition at CityScape Community Art Space, 355 LonsdaleAvenue, North Vancouver. The title that got the most votes was "Sea, Soil and Sky". The second most popular title was "North Shore Colours" and the third was "Sea to Mountain Tops and in Between". We hope to have a meeting soon with the Executive Director to discuss a proposal and we will submit these theme titles. Submitted by, Heather Luccock 604-985-6570 hjIuccokcshaw.ca April Meeting Demo: Daniel Chuang -- acrylic landscape Daniel offered the Membership a "brilliant" and a "breathtaking" experience of watching a fellow artist's masterful use of six colors. He advised: first, simplify everything to geometric shapes; second, work from shadows, dark, mid tones to light; third, always bring a sense of humor. On the canvas of orange, he boldly added vivid areas of color; the silence of the room was filled with gasps from the audience. Everyone was waiting, baited breath, for each consecutive stroke!
