North Shore Artists' Guild (formerly West Vancouver Sketch Club) March 2008 Page 2 started, we are inviting the members of the Guild to submit ideas for a theme by April 15. The themes should be topical, different and interesting, not simply "Florals" or "Landscapes". Once a theme is agreed upon we can then begin the application process and members can start painting. So, put your thinking caps on and let us see what we can come up with for a possible themed exhibition at CityScape Community Art Space. Please send your ideas to me at the above email or phone numbers. Ongoing Exhibitions At the moment there are two venues for Ongoing Exhibitions. One is St. Stephens Church and the contact person is Caroline Kuwica. Caroline will be contacting the participating artists in April. The other venue is the Park Royal Community Room for which Shelley James and Betty Johannsson are the contacts. The Park Royal Show goes until June and a decision as to whether to continue will be decided at that time. Jurying Edith Warner 604-980-5358 wan ie rei i teli is., iet As mentioned at our last meeting, our next jurying will take place in May. Included in this newsletter are the Notice of Exhibition and the entry form. Please read these over carefully. Shaded areas are for Guild use only. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are submitting images via email please be sure that your image is of the painting only, properly cropped so there is no frame or other background showing. If you need assistance with this, please let me know. This jurying will cover two important shows, including the Harmony Arts Festival, one of our most successful sales opportunities for the year, and the Ferry Building show in the fall. This jurying will be completed electronically, in other words each juror will be sent a CD containing all of the images and they will be able to complete the jurving at their own homes which will save us some costs of renting facilities. Each painting will receive a score between 1 4 from each of 2 jurors, these scores are then totaled giving a score of between 2 and 8 for each work. We will then select paintings based on scores for the upcoming shows. This is all done through our jurying software so the selection is quite impartial. In addition, jurors MAY provide comments on the areas of a painting which they felt required improvement. This information will be passed on as well. All of the above information and details are also available www.nsartists.ca/content/1108/. We look forward to seeing your work! on the website at Education June Harman 604- 926-0875 june@junelzarinan.couii At our April meeting our demonstration artist will be Daniel Chuang. We are working to make all people feel welcome at our meetings which are now so big that new members are easily overlooked. If someone is sitting or standing alone, please make an effort to speak to them at the coffee break. I found one person standing alone this month who has been coming for a year, has sat at our shows, and still has not actually met anyone in the club. This was quickly remedied with a couple of introductions. This is the purpose of the name tags, not for people we already know.
