North Shore Artists' Guild (formerly West Vancouver Sketch Club) Februaiy 2008 Page 2 On a happier note, we now have a date for our next Annual Fine Art Show at Parkgate Community Centre: Sunday, November 9th, 2008. For those of you who weren't around last November, we enjoyed our first ever non-juried show on such a huge scale and it Wa:; a resounding success. Over the next while, please think about volunteering in some capEcity. We will need some new committee heads to fill the shoes of folks who are retiring. Thanks to excellent planning and organizing of last year's committee those shoes should be quite comfortable. The process went as smoothly as clockwork and ther&s no reason to believe this year's exhibition wont proceed in the same manner. Working on a committee is a wonderful way to get to know other members and find out more about the inner workings of this terrific organization. So why not give it a try? During the next few months we will give you details of the available positions but we will need lots of helpers during the actual weekend of the show as well. Please contact me if you are available to help with registration on the Saturday evening prior to the show, set-up and/or take-down on Sunday as well as meeting the public and keeping an eye on paintings during the show. At Tuesday night's meeting I couldn't help but notice how many of our members are now exhibiting their work in venues all over the lower mainland. The executive will be discussing how we can carve more time out of the business portion of our general meetings for members to tell us about their exciting endeavors. Way to go, people! Jurying Edith Warner 604-980-5358 warneren@telus.net As mentioned at our last meeting, our next jurying will take place in May. There will be more details and information provided in the next newsletter but for new members here are a couple of things you should know: You may submit up to 4 paintings. 1. You must have attended 3 meetings in the 12 months prior to qualify for entry. 2. All entries are juried via electronic images. 3. Submissions can be accepted electronically this is the preferred method for submission. 4. If you cannot submit electronically, you can bring your paintings to be photographed on 5. the day of the jurying, with a $2.00 fee per painting for photography done by the Guild.. There will be a hanging fee of $4.00 per painting payable when you deliver your paintings 6. for any show for which they are selected. Paintings that are "not for sale" can be submitted for jurying but will not be selected for 7. any shows. Our policy is that all paintings in a show are to be for sale. - This jurying will cover two important shows, including the Harmony Arts Festival, one of our most successful sales opportunities for the year, and the Ferry Building show. In next month's issue I will detail how paintings are juried and what you can expect by way of marks and feedback. In the meantime, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
