North Shore Artists' Guild (formerly West Vancouver Sketch Club) October2007 Page 5 It is our hope that you are all planning to participate in the Annual Fine Art Sale November 11th, and that you will be successful in selling your paintings. Our confidence in you is reflected by our estimate of revenue from paintings entered and sold to increase to $15,600 compared with our budget of $9,550 last year. Should you wish a set of our latest financials, you may email me at the address above. Past President Larry Achtemichuk 604-926-9640 lachtem@shaw.ca At the June AGM we discussed some opportunities for improved member value through more participation and activity in the Guild. The ideas discussed were summarized in the minutes, are summarized and updated on the website under Member Participation and are summarized below: Painting Groups at Klee Wyck are a GO! Based on sign ups at the last meeting, and response to an e-mail, we have enough interested people to have two weekly painting groups at Klee Wyck, and room to add more members. The days are Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. (After-school drama classes for children begin at 3:30 so we need to clean up and leave in time). The times are already tentatively booked. We can handle more members for each of the sessions, especially Wednesday. Call me or e-mail me to sign up. We need to break even on this program, so the more the merrier. The charge will be $10/day a real bargain. We will start on October 3 and 4. See the Guild website for a current list of participants click on the Member Participation menu item. - FIRST FRIDAYS are a GO!! At the last meeting we had enough people sign up to Warrant going ahead with the idea of "First Fridays" at Klee Wyck. A member (or several) would put on a show at Klee Wyck on the first Friday of the month starting at 6 pm. The cost would be about $40 for the evening rental. The exhibitor(s) would set up and take down and clean up the venue. They would also invite people to attend the show, assisted by references and publicity in the Guild website. We continue to accept other applicants on a first come, first served basis and if you are open to sharing an evening with a fellow artist we can also do some matchmaking. Contact me if you are interested. New Critique Group Formed Have Room for additional members -- Thanks to the initiative and leadership of Rene Gourley (rene@proto87.org or 604-904-8404) a new critique group is off and running in the Guild. They meet on the 3rd Sunday of the month at participants' homes and have room for more artists. Contact Rene to sign up. Get Your Contact Lists Ready for the Annual Fine Art Sale The Annual Fine Arts Sale on November 10th needs a lot of people attending, and a good number buying our works, to make it successful and build momentum for the future. The organizing committee and Publicity team are pulling out the stops in getting media coverage of all sorts, and preparing signs and posters to be placed all over the North Shore, and are asking for your help in doing so. The Guild will also send invitations to anyone already in our contact data base as well, which is approaching 1000 names. However, every member also needs to invite as many people to this event as they can. Think of it this way if I were having a solo show at a gallery, whom would I invite? Then think about getting out of your comfort zone and add more names!! Please start assembling your contacts' now. - In the next month or so we will be offering various things to help you get your invitations out if this would be of value. Brochures and postcard templates, postcards with pre-printed fronts, and "how to" suggestions for using these will be forthcoming. The software which provides our Guild website also allows a member to assemble and easily maintain your personal contacts using the website. People who voted for you at Peoples Choice Awards or bought paintings from you in the past will automatically be added to your personal list by the website. Maybe this is a good time to start using this capability?
