F any new group. As a result of the discussion at the AGM, Rene has had ten members sign up for a second group, and he is willing to receive calls from other members to set up yet an additional group. Contact him at 604-904-8404 or at rene@proto87.org. o Critique groups are a great way to get feedback on your own work, and to develop a discriminating eye and a language to express what changes one can make to a painting to make it "work", including your own of course. Painting Groups Some of you may be aware that there is a Monday group of painters that has met at Klee Wyck for many years. It is not an NSAG sponsored group but includes some members. We now have an opportunity to create one or more additional groups dependent on interest and scheduling. - o o For many developing painters, a painting group or an Open Studio environment can be the most effective means of progressing as an artist. One gets encouragement and feedback from the group. The fact that the session is pre-scheduled can prevent distractions from eating away at your painting time, and with more time at it, your painting improves. In some cases if your work or studio space for painting is not ideal, this can be an answer to this as well. Contact Larry Achtemichuk at 604-802-5526 or lachtem@shaw.ca to sign up for a space. Indicate which days of the week you are able to make it as a guide for scheduling. Also indicate if you would be interested in having us find a tutor to participate in the sessions. The cost would go up for this sort of tutored session, of course. "First Friday" Shows This is an embryonic idea so we are currently trying to gauge the level of interest. Here is a possible scenario. On the first Friday of each month, one or more NSAG members have a one-night show at Klee Wyck from say, 5:30 to 8 PM. The members involved would be responsible for the invitations, the set-up, refreshments and take down of the show. There are a number of easels, tables and chairs already there, so set up would be simple. - o o o The longer term idea would be that if the interest and use of this "First Friday" event was regular, steady, and relatively successful, it would become better known in the community and could start to attract more attendance. The Guild website would also help to create awareness and interest. First things first, how many of you would be interested in such a "First Friday" show in the next year? Contact Larry Achtemichuk at 604-802-5526 or lachtem@shaw.ca if you are interested; first come, first served. o
