This year seventeen members participated and from all accounts enjoyed the concert. Lars Kaario, the founder and music director of Laudate Singers showcased all Canadian composers in a performance that was very different from their usual classical fare. The music was lighthearted and even whimsical, ideal for a spring evening. Lars thanked the artists for their contribution to the theme of "Canadian Landscapes" saying that the show greatly enhanced the concert. One of the artists said that she hopes this might become a tradition. One of the benefits of this collaboration is the publicity that we give Laudate Singers and that they give us. Our Guild name has been on their publicity for all the concerts this past season. The artists' names were also listed in the concert program. So while this is not likely a venue for a direct sale, it is a good opportunity for artists to have some personal exposure and to publicize our Guild's name. Thank you to all those who participated in this very pleasant event. cEducation Jacquie 9vtanning 604-980-8907 ssziklai@keynotetech.com I hope everyone enjoyed April's guest artist, Vjeko Sager? I had no idea how versatile and everlasting egg tempera is. I actually had no idea about egg tempera at all! I would have liked to have seen more finished examples of his work because I think he is an extremely accomplished artist but his description of the process and his historical slide show was informative and fascinating. We will set up a workshop to explore this incredible medium with him sometime next year. Several of you have requested this and he has agreed (if he can work us into his busy schedule). I think we all were dismayed to learn that acrylic paintings, in fact anything that is painted on acrylic gesso, has a shelf life of perhaps not more than thirty or forty years! Does this mean the time has come to rethink our choice of mediums we work in? I am pleased to announce that our guest artist for May's meeting will be Winston Hartle, the graduate art student from the IDEA (Illustration/Design: Elements and Applications) program at Capilano College. Winston was the student who came to our November meeting to sell their calendars. He will present a demo in ink sketches with watercolour washes. As well as being a proficient artist he is a personable young man who I think we will enjoy. See you there!
