This is called the Sam Black prize in honour of a past member. Since 1980, this prize has been awarded to 28 outstanding art students, for a total of $7300. We have made an application to have a Guild group show at this year's Harmony Arts Festival which is being held from August 3 to 12. This would make it our fourth appearance in a row. These have been very successful in the past. The May 5 jurying will select entries for this exhibition. Our next exhibition is detailed below. We will combine this with a special reception that will further celebrate our 60th Anniversary. We will invite some community dignitaries, and we will have a special invitation of our long time members and alumni. The latter group will be invited to bring a sample of their work for display at the reception. A successful party or reception is one that is well attended and has lots of "buzz". To this end we are asking each member to invite as many people as they can to the event (and/or to the show that will follow). For any member who brings two or more guests to the reception we will credit you with an extra meeting attendance which you can use to meet the minimum of three meetings attended in the past 12 months required for entering paintings in a jury session. Let's have a very good party. If you are like many of us, you may have thought of getting a good set of names together to invite to your shows or to events like the upcoming reception. I sent out an e-mail last week telling members who have received People's Choice Award votes how to add these names to your contact list. Hopefully these will be useful to many of you. A reminder that paintings entered in the jury must meet our requirements for originality and copyright. These were detailed in the July 2006 issue of this newsletter and are on our website under Information for Members Jurying Information. - Over 75 of our members responded to our Member Survey this year, which is almost the same number that did so in our last survey in 2005, just under 40%. Thank you. The Executive team will meet to have a thorough discussion of all your input in the next week. We can expect to see that we have members at different stages of their development as artists and with perhaps different interests and priorities. The goal and challenge will be to address as many of these potentially diverse views as we possibly can given our capacities as a volunteer driven organization. We will report back to the members in our future meetings and we will use our June Annual Meeting for a discussion of the survey and the recommended action plans. Through the leadership of member Alfonso Tejeda, the Guild is planning an exciting program to complement our 60th anniversary. Not only will this be a fun and social "paint out", but it will expose our Guild to the communities in which we live. The program has the following structure: 1
