North Shore Artists' Guild ·(formeryèstVanCouverkhCIub) April 2007 Page 2 this when we had all of the paintings and frames on display, so the jurors implicitly did the screening of unacceptable framing. Based on a suggestion made at the meeting, the proposal was that if three members of the Hanging Committee deemed a frame unacceptable, the painting would not be hung. Needless to say, a painting needs a hanging wire to be hung on our display panels, and to attach the tethers for security reasons. WEBSITE SECTION For the many new members in the Guild, you should be aware that the Guild has a very innovative offering for its members to allow them to have their own artist website. Traditionally, developing websites is very complicated and most websites are created by highly specialized (and expensive) experts called webmasters, The software used by the Guild offers our members to create and maintain their own websites, with only modest computer skills, and none of the front end and ongoing costs and issues in dealing with busy webmasters. To date, over 60 of our members have websites in this way. The same software that enables the member websites also creates the Guild website, and provides the on-line shows, member data base, and contact management applications we use. It also helps our members in getting synergy among the Guild and its member websites so that interest and traffic is facilitated in important ways. If you are comfortable with editing and storing images of your paintings on your computer, then you are ready to take a Website Loading workshop (2-3 hours) during which you will get your website going and learn how to maintain it. If editing and storing images of your photos is not an area you can manage right now, you can either take such classes on your own, or we can schedule another workshop, File Handling and Image Editing, also about 3 hours in duration. The purpose of this notice is to determine if there are any members who are interested in their own websites. This will be the last opportunity until very late this year. If you are interested or have questions, please e-mail me at lachtem@shaw.ca A more detailed description of the capabilities can be found on the Guild website. Go to Information for Members on the menu and then click on Item 4 Artist Websites or go to http: / / www.nsartists .ca / content! 1206/1263 / cE.fii6itions -- j4(Spence 604-988-2737 spenceale@telus.net Our next show will be at Capilano Mall from May 25 June 3 with a reception on Monday May 25 from 7 9 pm. A big thank you to Alan Reynolds for his donation of some very nice Art books for our Library. Alan served as President for two separate terms with the club.
