We will now maintain this binder. /\ g4 West Van Library Show had good coverage by the North Shore News. Vice-Q?resiient cEiitfi Warner 604-980-5358 zvarneren@telus.net Several people, particularly newer members or those new to the jurying process have asked how the scoring is done. Each painting is scored 1-4 by each juror, allowing for a total mark of 8. Whether jurying via photos as we did in the last jurying or walking around, jurors make their decisions very quickly and do not spend a lot of time studying any paintings except those which are selected as possible award winners. They also are asked to provide comments on various factors as a way of feedback to the artists on areas requiring improvement. These are indicated with an "X" in the appropriate comment box. There is no direct relation between the "x"s and the marks, they are just comments. The marks are then input into the computer and the top marked paintings are reviewed a second time to determine award winners. The selection of paintings for our shows is done by the computer. Working in order of highest marks to lowest marks, paintings (not artists) are allocated alternately to the shows being planned until enough paintings have been chosen. This determines the cut-off mark, usually a 4. This past jurying saw fewer entries so the cutoff mark ended up being a 3.
