Please note the details elsewhere in this newsletter. Warm appreciation from the entire Guild to Helen Ott, Tess Johnson and their team of holiday helpers for organizing this for us, and to Jacquie Manning for securing Tony O'Regan as our special guest for the event. Speaking of volunteers, as you may have noted, there have been several good initiatives by individuals and committees in the Guild to streamline and otherwise reduce the effort needed by volunteers. The jury system we trialed last month may be a good example. In other areas the effort required has increased and so we need to ensure that we spread the work across a few more people in these areas. Here are some areas that need some help, and I would ask that you contact the appropriate executive member or me if you can help "many hands make light work". · Club Roster for a Mall Show this person would sign up members and schedule them so that we have two members on duty at the show at all times. Some phoning would be required to fifi the slots. All members are required to serve a 2 hour shift for each painting they have in the show. · Reception Coordinator For the reception we normally have at our Mall shows, organize the `goodies" (wine, cheese, crackers, other drinks) obtain the liquor license, and set up for the reception, get 1-2 members to assist to serve our guests, etc. You only need to sign up for one show if you like; the next one will be Park Royal in the spring. · Harmony Arts Festival Show assistant work with the Festival and Guild committees to organize the show in early August. This is our most successful show of the year in terms of visitors and sales. · Peoples' Choice Award coordinator just get the ballots, signs and boxes to one of more of our shows. Draw the winning ballot for the $100 credit prize and contact the winner. Count the ballots and announce the winner of the Award to the next meeting or newsletter. Pass the ballots to the Computer Committee for entry of the contacts on the ballots into our website data base of contacts for future publicity. · Understudy to the Treasurer learn the procedures of the treasurer to act as back up in case of absence. You do not need to have any financial background can you write a cheque? We have a book-keeper to do the "books" so that is not part of the role. Thanks to those that wifi step forward. We have tried to break the roles into small chunks so that none of them is onerous. - - - - I had the very pleasant task of delivering some art related books to the three North Shore municipal libraries last week. They were very appreciative of the donation and gesture, and should help our members and the community at large to appreciate and learn about art. The Peoples' Choice Award for the Capilano Mall show goes to Nancy Dean for her painting "In the Shadows of St. Mary's". Several other paintings received a goodly share of votes as well, including "Whistler Creek 2" by Frieda Ashworth, "Myth" by Maryam Rais Rohani, "Vancouver Skyline" by Victor Smith and "Ca Marche" by Louise Goodman. !Exfii6itions J4(Spence 604-988-2737 spenceale@telus.net The Library show looked very good, a lot of excellent paintings they seem to get better with each show, the afternoon reception was good, something different to experience; don't forget to pick up your paintings on FRI. DEC. 1 AT 9 AM The Capilaio Mall show also had a lot of good paintings in it, the opening reception was poorly attended (approx. 50 people) if you have a painting in the show you should try to attend and invite a few people, by the end of the show we had sold 3 paintings.
