It was really amazing to see how much there was to learn about techniques, methods and materials. Two days was far too little time to cover everything- a week would have been more appropriate. Rick was a great teacher, imparting so much knowledge, demonstrating drawing techniques and showing us pages and pages of his work from his portfolio. Unfortunately, there were only ten members who took the workshop, so for this workshop we had a loss. We are obligated to pay for the Klee Wyck rental, so canceling is not an option. Hopefully, we can make up the difference by having a better turnout to future classes. We will also undertake to advertise our classes to non-members when we are unable to fill it with members. Oct 28/29 (Sat/Sun) Abstract Painting & Series Planning, by Frieda Ashworth Although many people expressed interest in this workshop at the last meeting, we now have only 10 members signed up for this workshop so far, so we need to get a few more for this exciting workshop. Spread your wings, take a chance, try something outside of your usual box. You may surprise yourself! If you have signed up, but weren't able to pay at the last meeting, please call Barbara Ohi to make arrangements. An outline of the class and a supply list can be emailed to you. Nov 24th (Fri), "Playing with Yupo" by Joan Fraser At the October meeting, Joan brought a display of her delightful works on this new medium. So far, we have 16 members interested in taking this playful workshop. Please email me if you would like to join in the fun. As I mentioned at the meeting, you can receive free samples and information by calling 1 888 USE.YUPO or visit their website at WWW.YIJPO.COM. It can also be purchased at Opus in Pads or sheets- remember to wear gloves when handling it, as it will leave fingerprints. A pair of cotton gloves can be purchased for about $1.80 (also at Opus). As Joan mentioned, the supply list for her workshop will be minimal- Yupo `paper' and any water based medium. Dec 1st (Fri) Pet Portraits and Other Animals by Denise Holowenko. I hope most people were able to see the Denise's wonderful pastel portraits at the October meeting. I will try to bring them back to the November meeting also. Unfortunately, Denise isn't able to attend any of our meetings, because she has a busy schedule training dogs. We still have lots of room in this workshop, and although her demos will be in pastel, you are welcome to work in any medium that you are comfortable. I will have a suggested supply list at the next meeting.
