We have just been advised by the Silk Purse that they would like a show from the Guild in January. We wifi publish more details as we know them. Paintings wifi be chosen from this last jurying as we wifi not have another jurying now until the spring. The term of my job as exhibition director will be expiring in 2007 so now would be a good time to volunteer so that you could come around with me and meet the various contacts and see what's involved with the job, any one interested call me Al Spence at 604-988-2737 or email spenceal@telus.net Juiying Jfeatfier £uccoc& 604-985-6570 /lj(uccockftsliaw. ca Thank you to all the people who helped with the new electronic jurying. The electronic age has certainly come to our Club, and it was an interesting learning experience for all of us. There is no doubt that it was quick and easy, but there were fewer paintings submitted this time. The pace wifi likely quicken as more people submit their work in future juryings. Please feel free to pass on your comments to me. Heather Luccock 604-985-6570 or email hjluccock@shaw.ca. Juror feedback from Jane Armstrong The jurors we had on October 21st were Jane Adams and Rita Monaco. Here is their input on the Jurors Choice and Honourable mention paintings. Things that the rest of us could improve on: 1. The compositions were good, including the drawings, originality and values 2. They had visual impact, they were bold 3. Good at handling the paint 4. Good subject choice. Every part of the painting told a story. Has to be interesting 5. The artist went beyond what they saw and put their own emotion into the art work 6. The personality showed in the artwork These were the general comments on what needs improvement: 1. We don't use colour enough, washed out not bold enough, also lacks contrast 2. The values need improvement 3. Subject matter Didn't understand the subject, why did we paint the painting. 4. Paint what we know. 5. The compositions were weak - Hope that's helpful! For those of you who would like to see his work you can Google "Craig Yeats" and that wifi direct you to Rendezvous Art Gallery. He does not have his own website. You also could drop by his studio/gallery located at 3390 Marine Drive in West Vancouver. After his demo the other evening several members approached me requesting that Craig do a workshop for us. He said that he would love to. So Barbara Ohl, our workshop director wifi be setting that up. I certainly look forward to that one! At November's meeting Alfonso Tejada will give a demo on "drawing for painting". Alfonso is an accomplished artist who regularly visits Mexico and Italy for inspiration. Please do not miss this meeting. You are in for a treat! Also at November's meeting, a last year Capilano College art student will be present to sell their 2007 art calendar comprised of the students' works. As you may or may not know every year our club presents a scholarship to a Cap College student. Ever since Kiff Holland introduced the production of an art calendar as part of the program, students have been visiting New York City art galleries to further their education. The proceeds from the sale of the calendars go towards paying for their trip. Many of the students would be unable to go if it weren't for these sales. So please support the careers of these excellent young artists by purchasing one or more of these calendars. They would make excellent Christmas gifts. Plus, the art work in them is terrific! The young artist who will be joining us wifi bring his original painting that has been printed in the calendar. The calendars sell for $16. -
