As you know we needed to move this up in the calendar to accommodate the Library show starting on November 1. We had fewer submissions this time around. The consensus is that the earlier date and the beautiful weather conspired to reduce the number of entries. As you also know, we had to use a different jury process this time in order to work around scheduling and time issues. The process is not unique; in fact it is much like the Federation of Canadian Artists approach. The difference is that we offer to take photos of your paintings if you do not have images or slides of your work, whereas with the FCA you are on your own. The process worked very well we think. We had about 59 paintings submitted on line ahead of the date, which saved effort and further reduced the traffic and work at the session. Edith was finished entering all information into her computer within a few minutes of the last person coming in. There were no line ups and it would have been easily possible to handle double the artists and paintings in the 2 hours we had. Several members also took advantage of the fact that framing was not required for entries. There is now much less work over all for the Jury and Equipment Teams, and the big savings in time is that we no longer need to set up and take down all the chairs in the gymnasium over 2 days, and there was no need to carry and place the paintings on the chairs. For most members they could be in and out of the jury location in under 10 minutes and had no need to come back a second time to pick up their paintings as we had done before. The actual jurying was completed in about 1 `/2 hours, and a few minutes after the jurors were finished, all the information was entered into the Club computer and the reports prepared. Like everything, there certainly are some tradeoffs. It is difficult to see texture in a photograph, the frames cease to be part of the jurying (a mixed blessing??) and as we heard in the Giclee presentation recently there are a few colours that do not reproduce well on the projector, so we should use two LCD screens instead of our projector next time. And also, it is no longer possible for members to wander around the gym looking at all the submissions, which many enjoyed. To that, I would suggest that you come to the receptions instead, and by the way use the time to get to meet other members and of course, our guests. You can also see the online version of the shows on our website in a week or so. Any suggestions and comments on the process are welcome. With the two shows coming soon, I'd like to ask all members to make a special effort to get their contacts invited to the shows and receptions and to note Cathy Roddie's remarks on how to help visitors decide which paintings they like and why, and get them to buy one at our staffed shows. The Guild will also be helping in more publicity as well for the upcoming events as you will see in this newsletter. )ice-cPresiient cEditI1 Warner 604-980-5358 zvarneren@telus.nett As Larry mentioned above, the latest jurying went very well. Results of the jurying are included in this newsletter with lists of those who passed the jurying and which show their paintings have been allocated to. No marks are included here for privacy purposes. Individual artist reports, with critique comments where provided by the jurors, wifi be emailed to those who use email and wifi be available for pickup at the next meeting for those who do not. These reports serve as proof that your paintings were accepted by the jury and will replace the need for the stamping of paintings. You may want to attach your report to the back of your painting for future reference. As you know, being juried can be challenging, particularly when your work is not accepted for a show. Try to remember that your marks reflect only a juror's subjective opinion. Another juror may mark the same
