r As before, if you send the descriptive information of your entries in to Edith Warner by e-mail ahead of time, this will allow this information to be entered in advance and reduce peak work loads for our volunteers. 2. Registering on line. Those members who have a good image of their paintings can also send them, along with all the descriptive information (artist name, painting title, price, medium, dimensions, and whether the painting is to be in a Continuing Show) to Edith Warner (warneren@telus.net) who will enter the images into the computer and assign numbers as they come in. There will be no fee for paintings registered on line. The deadline is also October 14. Since you will not be picking up your paintings after the juror selections there is no opportunity to pay the $2 Hanging Fee we have charged in the past for those paintings selected. We will simply change the fee collected when you bring your paintings to a show from $2 to $4 and this will be the same overall effect and cost. Once the photographs from the jury session have been edited and stored, they will be reviewed with the jurors a few days later on a computer or through our projector. They will then fill in their evaluations and scores, as is usually done. The scores will be entered into the computer in the usual way; the regular reports will be printed out and the artists will be notified via the newsletter as to whether they have paintings accepted or not. They will also be posted on our website. At the general meeting last week, it was pointed out that since the digital images of our paintings will be cropped before they are viewed by the jurors, it could be feasible to bring unframed works at the jury, to save us some money if we have pieces that are not selected in. This would be acceptable for works on canvas or board, but we cannot take photographs of un-mounted works on paper, eg. water colours or pastels. They have to be perfectly flat and able to be put on an easel. Besides, if you assume the weather may be bad, you may worry about protecting your works in transit. If you have any questions please contact Heather Luccock at 604-985-6570. These instructions and a copy of the forms are also on the Guild website under the Information for Members menu item. !Eiucation Jacquie rManning 604-980-8907 ssziklai@keynotetech.com Welcome back, everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful summer! I hope those who were at the September meeting enjoyed Richard Alms talk on giclee prints. For those of you who were not there, this was a very interesting presentation on the processes, costs and considerations are for making giclee prints on canvas or watercolour paper. Even more interesting were his examples of "new mixed media" where a digital photograph is used as a base for a paintings and once manipulated and printed on canvas, you can also "enhance the work by painting on it as well. He also showed some examples of producing new works by blowing up a very small section of one of your paintings and printing these on canvas. Are we able to get our minds around all this new technology, kids? Yikes! "The times they are a-changing" You are in for a surprise at October's demo. Think "big" and think "acrylic". Those are the only clues I'm giving you but you'll be disappointed if you miss this one. Even you watercolourists and pastelists will get a kick out of this! See you there.
