Norjh Shore Artists' Guild (formerlyWest Vancouver Sketch Club) April 2006 Page 3 drawing skifi, colour sense and general presentation of pre-chosen examples; very much as would the guest jurors we hire for our hi-annual juryings. Ingrid, who executes intelligently stylistic acrylics, is represented by the Harrison Gallery. She has been a member of our Guild since 1994 and has entered her work in numerous of our juryings. So she is familiar with the criteria used by jurors to judge our paintings. Accomplished artist, Michael Tickner, lives in Lions Bay. I am sure most of us recognize his charmingly vibrant west coast scenes. He also painted one of the Orca whales used in the "Orcas in the City" project a couple of years ago. His work can be viewed at his gallery in Lions Bay or by going to www.thestudioartgallery. There were many requests for his return to teach people how to create paintings using large brushes in order to become less detail oriented. The April workshop will feature Sue Hetherington working with a pastel medium. Dates for the workshop are April 22 and 23. Registration will be on April 18 at 6:30 PM, prior to the general meeting. Registration fee is $65.00 by cheque or cash. Please bring a lunch; tea and coffee wifi be provided. Workshop time is from 9:30 to 3:30 at Klee Wyck. Materials: any pastels that you have. A basic set of colours is necessary. SUE HETHERINGTON Sue Hetherington, currently working in acrylic, pastel and mixed media, says that the act of painting for her is primarily about the creative process. Although she has an extensive background in traditional approaches to painting (oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolour), she now explores more abstract and experimental work, emphasizing that the idea of discovery and play is very important to her. Sue was born in Vancouver and was raised primarily in West Vancouver. She studied art at Capilano College and Kwantlen College and won the top Fine Arts scholarship while studying painting and printmaking at Fraser Valley College. After graduating in both Fine Arts, and Graphic Arts and Communications, she showed her work in numerous group shows and galleries while working as a graphic artist from 1985 until 1996. In October of 2000 she was awarded Senior status in the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists for her figurative painting and portraiture. Her goal in portrait painting is not only to have the viewer see a likeness that reveals the presence of the soul of the sitter but also experience the `rapt energy' that goes into the act of painting. Sue is now committing her time to painting and to teaching painting in all mediums and is enjoying her role as an active member in The Fort Gallery. 9vlem6ership )Lnne 9vtc91ahon 604-922-8249 rnc,nahonalex@hotmail.conz NOW is the time to think about our 60th Anniversary year 2006-07.
