The key to the success was all the members who invited many guests to the reception, which we wifi hold again, and to the show itself. So we need to repeat this. if you have internet access to the Guild website, you can now keep track of your invitees using the new Contact Manager function and share them with the Guild. For those members who do not have, or choose not to use, this function, a list of your invitees on a piece of paper works also! Bring these to the April meeting please. You should not feel that there is a limit on the number of guests you invite. The reception will be in the mall after hours so we have no space constraints. The more the merrier! Workshop Registrations At our last meetings there was discussion about our approach to registering for workshops. There were two areas of discussion. The first had to do with equity of access to the workshops. There was a perception that a few of our members took multiple workshops and may have prevented others from attending. We did some homework on the facts involved. Mike Svob's and We really only had two workshops that were significantly over-subscribed Michael O'Toole's what I have termed "celebrity" workshops. In all other workshops we had very small or no waiting lists. In looking at the records we had only a small handful of members that took more than 2 workshops so far this year. In our last member survey, the number of members who reported that they took more than 2 workshops in two years was also small. The conclusion is that for most of the workshops the issue is very manageable. Given how important it is financially to have full workshops, the people who registered for more than one were actually important to help keep the workshops full. - The solution to the over-subscribed "celebrity" workshops is to try to have the workshops repeated, and not to restrict attendance on some basis. The other category of discussion was the process of registering itself. We start registering at 6:30 on the evenings of our monthly meetings. This works fairly well. The concern is that if one is unable to come to a meeting then one has to get a friend to register for them. The executive discussed all matter of options and came to the conclusion that the current approach is the best on balance. Other options like mailing in cheques to determine the first come-first served order would create a lot of extra volunteer workload to accept the payments, call all registrants and return cheques for those that may not have made the limits. It would also mean that confirming whether you were in a workshop or not would be spread over some weeks perhaps and result in more late cancellations as a result. So, we shall continue with the current process for the while. Life is full of tradeoffs and this is one of them!
