We are now the North Shore Artists' Guild, with the tagline "formerly the West Vancouver Sketch Club". It will take us some time to get this change implemented but we have already made a good start. At the January 21 general meeting, the membership passed a motion to increase the fee for our workshops to $65 from $50. This is still a great bargain considering the caliber of the instructors, and is at most ½ the cost of comparable workshops. The reason for the change is that we were on a track to lose money this year on workshops, which would not be acceptable. More context on this situation is in our Treasurer's report. The Capilano Mall Show was a wonderful success and this is detailed in the report by Al Spence. We all owe Al and his team of volunteers a great deal of appreciation for a successful show, our first reception and the inaugural Peoples' Choice Award. Also thanks to all the members who invited so many people to the reception, which made it a pleasant and successful event. There were 9 paintings sold at the reception and in the week long show, and given that we sold zero the last time we were at this mall, this seems to prove that the secret is not the venue, it is getting enough of the right kind of people to the event, and engaging them once they are there, and of course having a good collection and range of great art! We also collected a few hundred names of visitors to the show as part of the balloting for the Peoples' Choice Award which was won for Nancy Dean's "Ambleside Sentries". This ties in very nicely with some brand new capabilities in our website for handling and storing contact information like this, and for generating publicity and communications material for them. This wifi get rolled out via e-mail instructions in the next week or so, well in time for the upcoming Park Royal Mall show in May. Any member who can access and log into the Guild website can take advantage of this capability, not just those with websites. cL4i6itions J4(Spence 604-988-2737 allinspence@telus.net The Capilano Mall reception was a success, approximately 175 people attended and all seemed to be enjoying themselves, we sold 5 paintings during the show all in about a half hour time frame we will need a couple of volunteers for the sales desk at the park royal reception in May, and a few more volunteers to do various jobs during the party ,please let me know at a general meeting or by phone or email spenceal@telus.net, we made a small profit on the wine sales, just enough to cover the cost of glasses and soft drinks Congratulations to the following artists whose paintings sold: , .
