A very unique feature of our Club website is its ability to also provide for individual members' artist websites. Not only does this dramatically reduce the costs of providing the sites, the co-operative nature of the site synergistically generates interest and traffic that is more than would occur if each artist attempted this on their own. Another unique feature is that members can create and maintain their own websites, and there is no Webmaster and no need to hire expensive websitedevelopers to get a website running and more importantly, keep it fresh and current. - We currently have about 45 active websites on our system, with about 5 more that are in various stages of getting developed. As a reminder to members or for new members, we have devised a simple two stage process for getting a member to the stage of being able to create and update their own site. The process consists of two workshops, each about 3 hours in length. The first workshop gives members more facility with handling files on a computer (and digital camera if used) and on how to crop and edit photographs of ones' paintings. The second workshop allows you to actually create your website and learn how to put images of your paintings and information about yourself into it. The pre-requisite skills include experience with use of a computer for things like document creation, e-mailing and Internet access, with some familiarity in storing and retrieving simple files. The workshops are limited to 5-6 persons at a time and are scheduled as interest and demand dictates. There is a small cost of $10 per person per workshop for the use of a group of computers at WizZone, a North Shore instructional facility. The member survey conducted this spring indicated that a number of members were interested in getting their website going. The annual cost for the website is a very low $60. If you have an interest in proceeding or any questions please contact Larry Achtemichuk at lachtem@shaw.ca or 604-802-5526. There may also be an interest in the Club on how to take (better) photographs of your paintings and how to deal with moving these photos (digital or not) into a website or for other purposes. Please let Larry know if this is of interest as well. Finally, some of the members who do have websites may have some questions or need a refresher on some of the aspects of updating your site. If this is an area of interest, contact Larry as well and we can arrange for you to get some assistance or information. We6site Stories The club website and those of individual artists are beginning to have a positive impact on the Club and members' communications and visibility in the community. Here are a few stories from the summer. If you have other similar stories please send them to Larry Achtemichuk, as sharing them may be useful to others. · Edith Warner had a solo show in Abbotsford for the month of August which was a benefit for a cousin of hers who passed away last fall. Many of their relatives in Winnipeg and elsewhere were not able to come to the show but were able to view it online as a separate gallery on her
