Abstraction runs the gamut from hyperrealism, which overemphasizes details, to Whether you create figurative or nonfigurative figurative or nonfigurative representations. abstractions, when you approach your painting or drawing supported with a conscious idea in your head, the possibilities of abstracting from the norm are immense. In this workshop we will explore the distortion of reality, and finding and -abstracting your subject matter. The distortion of reality in ait is when we take such elements as line, form, and colour and make alterations from what we are familiar with. We will explore processes of abstraction by building up and tearing down ideas you bring to the workshop. ..sketches, photos, magazine graphics, memories, objects.. .you name it! Any medium is appropriate. With a little bit of your energy and a little bit of coaching, let's think outside the norm! This workshop is for every level of experience and any medium. You do not need to have any background in abstract art. The goal of this workshop is to provide tools for the artist who wants to create in a non realistic manner. Theory and technique will be presented in the context of discussions, demos, and assistance. List of Supplies · Notebook and pen for making notes. Sketching materials 2 pens Recommended: 2B pencil, eraser, ruler, narrow point felt tij · Inexpensive paper for quick sketches, coloured or plain · A MUST: A standard colour wheel (available at most art supply outlets). · OPTIONAL: An analogous colour wheel (also available at most art supply outlets). · Mark makers such as chalk, charcoal, craise conte · Newsprint for quick gestural mark making · A medium you are comfortable with such as: pastels, pencil crayons, watercolours, acrylics, oils · Suitable brushes, mediums, and supports for each. · Photographs taken by a film or digital camera, cut from a magazine; old sketches or artwork that you saved from the trash which you don't mind cutting or destroying. · Photographs as above or from book sources which will not be destroyed. · Clear acetate and a pen which will mark acetate so you can make your own grids. · Suggested miscellaneous: masking tape, pencil sharpener, paper towels -. - My theory: It is always better to bring far more than you think you need than to find you don't have what you want! Portrait Workshop with Susanna Blunt The workshop for October will be held on two consecutive Fridays; October 14 and 21. This will be a portrait workshop given by Susanna Blunt at Klee Wyck from 9:30 to 3:00. Please bring a lunch. Registration on Sept. 20 at 6:30 before the Sketch Club meeting. created The Royal Canadian Mint on June 2, 2003, unveiled the new portrait of H.M. Queen Elizabeth 11 be used on by Susanna Blunt. The new image was created in celebration of the Queen's Jubilee and will collector all new Canadian coins. The coins will be in circulation in September 2003. Specially minted sets are available from the mint www.rnint.ca. George Among the well-known people Susanna has painted are Toni Onley, painter, Vancouver; Cellist, Isserlis, Woodcock, author, Vancouver; Stanley Donen, film producer, Los Angeles; Stephen of London; and was chosen in a nation wide competition, by Her Excellency, Gerda Hnatyshyn, wife Governor General Ramon Hnatyshyn, to paint her portrait for Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Ontario. In 1997, she painted and personally delivered to Buckingham Palace a portrait of His Highness, the Prince Edward. Susanna was educated in Canada and in Europe. She now lives in West Vancouver B.C., Canada. She produces art in a wide variety of styles, from realistic, to abstract contemporary art. Internationally
