We last had a survey two years ago, and many changes and improvements in the Club were a direct result of the input that was received at that time. Because of the changes made and the many new members that have joined in the interim, it is time for another survey. An important new objective for this survey is that the Board has noted that the Club now has members with a broader range of interests and priorities. We feel we may need to have programs and activities that are designed for different groups of members. This survey will enable us to address this. We know that we cannot just try to target some elusive "average" member. The Survey will be done anonymously, using two approaches one is on-line via the Internet, and one is on paper, which is mailed back. For those with Internet access, we strongly request that you fill out the survey on the Internet using the instructions provided. The reason for this request is that this dramatically reduces the workload for volunteers who must re-key the responses into a computer from the paper versions of the responses. Each member who gets their newsletter via Canada Post will have a paper version of the survey enclosed with the newsletter. Fill it out and mail it in the stamped envelope which is provided before May 12. - A link is being provided on the Club website for those who have Internet access to the Survey. You will need a User ID and a password to access the "members only" material and to see the link to the Survey (as we do not want non members to access the survey) If you do not have an ID and password or have forgotten or mislaid it, send me an e-mail at lachtem@shaw.ca and one will be sent to you in a few minutes. Thanks in advance for your responses. There is lots of room to provide comments as well, which are very valuable to us. We hope to summarize the results at the June Annual General Meeting. E-mail Version of this Newsletter. We are aware of several dozen members who have e-mail addresses, but have not yet requested to have the newsletter and other mailings sent via e-mail. It costs us about 1/3 of the $30 annual member fee to photocopy and mail out the newsletter for a year for a member and are happy to do so if there is no option. The expenses can be used for other purposes as you are very aware. Please send me an e-mail to indicate that you are willing to switch to the electronic version of the newsletter. Consider also that you do not really have to print out the newsletter to view it or read it, if that is a factor in your decision. Web Software The Federation Gallery on Granville Island is familiar to many WVSC members. There is now one more thing that is common they have a new website based on the same software as the WVSC website. I had heard that they wanted to increase the visibility and sales success of the Gallery so showed them what we are doing in terms of on-line exhibitions and shows. Their new site is linked to the FCA site at www.artists.ca -- Gallery staff is very pleased with the system, They became self-sufficient in a couple of hours and find the system very easy to use. The ability to make changes and correct errors in an instant (vs going through a webmaster) is also important. Links between the Gallery site and the FCA site are in place to make them complimentary. The site is at www.federationgallery.ca
