Sketch May 2005 Page 2 - A note from Edith Warner, who gave our last demonstration on using a computer for composition for those of you who found the demonstration at the last meeting interesting, London Drugs currently has a sale on Photoshop Elements for $99.0 until M 15th. This is the program that we will be using as the basis for the workshops on this subject (using the computer as a composition tool). Seventeen people have signed up for such a workshop so we will be scheduling something in the fall. Stay tuned and thank you for the excellent response to the demonstration. Jurying Lynn We6ster 604-925-4214 klwzvestvan@shnzv. cii The jurors for the upcoming jury session will be Marilyn Lemon, who demonstrated at one of our meetings last year, and Greg Kawxcznski. He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts from the University of Krakow, Poland, and is a painter, sculptor, and jeweler. Based on confirmed plans we will be jurying for the Park Royal fall show and for a show at Brewster's from Aug 2-28. There is still no definitive word on the Harmony Arts Festival. cExfii6itions Jennjfer q'unner 604-921-1610 stiidio@stargnte.ca The first show held by the WVSC at Brewster's Coffee Shop was beautifully presented. Although there was room for only 20 or so paintings, they represented a good cross-section of styles and media, and showed to advantage the high quality of work produced by our members. Congratulations to Daphne McLean whose painting "Uncovering Shapes and Colour #4" was sold to an appreciative customer at Brewster's. The owner, Parviz, is open to further, more expanded shows by our members in the fall. There will be room for a few more paintings and less congested. We will follow up with dates etc. as soon as details are established. Thanks are owed to the many, hard working volunteers who made the Show come together at Park Royal last week.. I was particularly touched by the good spirit shown by some who stepped in at the last minute to cover for committee members who couldn't do their job. Special thanks to Julia Mullen, Margaret Dennis, Jim Elton and crew, Deb Taylor who does so many jobs for the Club I've lost count, Helen Ott and her crew and for the people who put themselves down to do roster duty even without having a painting in the show. - Four paintings sold during the Show and one prior to the opening. They are: Helen Ott's Joan Fraser's Marguerite Mahy's Barb Matthew's Mary Johnson's "Pastoral" "Wild Iris" "Arbutus Cove" "Peggy's Cove" "Summer Blue" Prior There is as well a customer seriously interested in Helen Ott's second painting, and that may result in the sixth sale attributable to the Show. Congratulations to those artists. There are still a few areas of concern regarding the correct processing of a sale. IE. Filling out a receipt with all required detail, including a Treasurers Report to accompany payment in the provided envelope, and NOTIFYING THE ARTIST when a sale is made. This last point is important. The artist may want to contact or meet the buyer, and at the very least does not want to come down to the Mall on the last night to find out the painting has gone. It has been frequently stressed that we need to collect email addresses of interested viewers and particularly of buyers in order to build our base support for future events. We missed the boat this time, as that was overlooked at this Show. Our next Show is at Capilano Mall May 30 to June 5, 2005. Set up and delivery of paintings will be at 6 pm on Sunday May 29th.
