Larry J4cfitemicfiu 604-926-9640 lachtern@sluiw.ca Publicity for Shows and Exhibitions One of the best things about the Club in terms of value to the members, our image on the North Shore, and our presence in the visual arts community are our juried Shows and Exhibitions. They are very successful, in large part because of the many capable volunteers involved and an ongoing focus on improving the processes involved. However, we would be remiss if we did not continue to focus on how to improve the Shows and their successes even further. Last year was the Club's first participation in the Harmony Arts Festival. Whereas we normally have 6-10 paintings sold at the Mall shows we hold twice a year, we sold 26 in the few days of the Harmony Arts Festival!! The "lesson" seems to be that our shows can be even more successful if we can get people to the shows who are interested and predisposed to art, like the attendees of the Festival, and if we can publicize the event, as was done for us very effectively by the Harmony Arts Festival communications campaign. Therefore this has suggested a strategy for improving our various shows, which is based on getting more people to visit our shows; people who are predisposed to art and painting, (versus mall walk by traffic only). In this newsletter you will see a number of actions to support his strategy. The important message is that we need every member's assistance in this regard. This means that we should all publicize the upcoming shows to those who may be interested in the Club Shows and of course, in your own participation in the Shows. My suggestion is that you collect a list of people that you can contact to help publicize the upcoming You can do this personally by calling them, or you can mail them one of the enclosed shows. postcards (designed and produced for us by member Ingrid Taylor). If you want more postcards, you can purchase 20 for $5, which is just the cost of printing. You can get more by calling Anne McMahon at 604-922-8249, or you can get them at the next meeting or the next Jurying session. For those of you who use e-mail, an electronic version of this postcard will be sent to you shortly. If we miss anyone in this category send me an e-mail to request this. Please see the report from Deb Taylor, our Publicity Executive for more actions and information. Another initiative that has been in place for some time has been to put the upcoming shows on-line on our website. (go to the website and click on SHOWS in the menu on the left). At the last meeting it was reported that Mary Johnson and Caroline Kuwica had each sold paintings as a result of being viewed in the on-line shows. It's working!!
