He introduced the attendees to using Indian paper as a medium for oil and acrylics, as well as watercolour. This results in some very interesting effects, and is an approach that Rick developed himself. He is also a very good instructor and knows a lot about the business of painting and art which he was very willing to share. Suzanne Northcott will be giving the April workshop as there were so many requests to repeat the successful workshop "Pen and Watercolour for Travelers". Suzanne was born in North Vancouver in 1954 and has lived in historic Fort Langley, B.C. since 1996. Her home in the village is the upper floor of a funky heritage building built in 1910 and originally called the "Coronation Block". The main floor houses Sue's studio/gallery. Mainly self-taught, Suzanne began painting in watercolour twenty years ago, quickly discovering a love for figurative work and for drawing media. A passionate and intuitive painter, she has always experimented with combining media and taking chances. Her current work explores themes of boundaries and connections using acrylic and drawing media, photo process and film. Each spring Sue manages to feed her three loves painting, writing and travel taking a group to Tuscany for on location sketching. After two weeks of great food and wine, museums and countryside, she comes home with pen and watercolour filled journals and a stack of fresh studies of local scenes. - A popular instructor with the Federation of Canadian Artists Foundation Program and in demand by groups around B.C., Suzanne emphasizes creative process, drawing skills and the importance of composition when teaching. She has been a visiting professor at York University, UBC, Capilano College and the Langley Fine Arts School. An energetic and positive approach makes Sue's classes truly enjoyable. Suzanne's work is widely collected, most recently by the Surrey Art Gallery for their permanent collection. Awards include the Mclvor Bentall award in the Aim for Arts international show and the 2003 Spilisbury Bronze medal. Her work has been represented in the Provincial Images and Objects on five occasions and was featured in this year's provincial ARTROPOLIS show. Publications include the literary magazine Poesis and International Artist Magazine.
