Sketch November 2004 Page 2 We continuously try to improve the Jurying process from the viewpoints of the members submitting paintings. We have noted some "glitches" at the last jurying, and are taking steps to address them. We also look to prevent errors and for time savings for our volunteers. In the past we have had several members at our shows ask to have prices changed on paintings from those submitted at the time of their jurying. Most of the reason for this is related to the commissions charged for the different shows. For the mall shows the Club charges a commission of 10%. At venues like the Ferry Building or the Library the commission is 30%. However, changing prices leads to a lot of confusion, last minute changes of labels and records, and lots of work for our many volunteers. Please be informed that a policy decision has been made NOT to allow price changes to be made for shows from the figures you provided at the jurying. The suggestion is to price your paintings for the "worst case" solution or to simply ignore the difference in the commissions in your pricing decision. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding on this point. Let me know if this causes any problems that we may not have foreseen. Please also be informed that a decision has been made to no longer issue receipts for the $2/painting hanging fee for paintings selected for our juried shows. Preparing the receipts is a lot of effort for the volunteers even by exploiting the Club's computer, and according to an informal survey, the value of these receipts to most members is not high. If you do want a receipt, this will be done for you manually on an exception basis when you check out your paintings.
