i-Sketch April 2004 Page 5 case her luck was on a roll. While she didn't win this time, she did sell another painting at the Park Royal Show. In my case, a boating acquaintance and I were talking about a painting I had done of a scene in the Queen Charlotte Islands, which he was familiar with. I brought up my website on a nearby computer and before I knew it, he decided he wanted it! Two days later he came over with a cheque! On line Shows on the Website In the past few weeks, we have added another major capability to the website, which was the ability to have all of the paintings at the recent Park Royal show seen as an on-line show on the website. Our hope is to use the website to help publicize the shows the Club puts on. I will soon have all the images for the upcoming Capilano Show on-line, so we can start the online show a few weeks ahead of the live event. The implementation of this on-line show is also rather clever in several ways. If any painting in the show is already on a member's website, it is automatically included in the on-line show, thus saving me time uploading and keying in the descriptions of the paintings. Conversely, if I add a painting to the on-line show, if you have a website it will automatically be added to your inventory of paintings in your website if it is not already there. If you have the painting in one of your online galleries, a notation is made at the bottom of your painting's description material indicating to visitors to your site that the painting will be, or is now, at the relevant Sketch Club show, a not so subtle hint to come to the show to see it live. If any member were to get a new website in the future, all paintings that have been previously selected in the juryings will be immediately available to the new site without any effort on the part of the member. I thought this was pretty neat!! This is the "magic" of relational data bases in computer applications. Website Workshops We will have another set of the two workshops we have developed for new people to learn how to edit and manipulate images on their computers and to load and change their own websites. The first workshop on Image Editing will be held on Thursday, April 15 at 900AM at the WizZone at 1583 Pemberton in North Vancouver. The second (Website Loading) workshop will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, May 11 also at WizZone. I have a list of people who had indicated previously that they were interested and I will send out an email to all those shortly. Let me know as soon as possible if you would like to be added to the list or if you have any questions about the workshops or your readiness for what would be involved. We have had several people take advantage of our offer to have a Cub volunteer edit their images and bios and load their websites for them for a $30 fee. Contact me if this is of interest. We will continue to add capabilities to the website over time, so stay tuned for new developments. Thanks to the members who recently agreed to get their newsletter via e-mail. This helps the Club in many ways. Let me know if you would like to join this list.
