Congratulations to all who 7 Our Spring Park Rc sold their work and thanks to all who contributed and assisted with the show. I had the pleasure this past weekend of presenting 3 Capilano College students with the West Vancouver Sketch Club Prize. They are Meghan Davies, Amy Kazymerchyk and Tamar O'Shea of the Studio Art progam. I wifi be inviting them to attend our next meeting so we can all congratulate them in person. Once more I must sadly report the passing of one of our members. Norma Sorensen passed away on March 14th. Norma was a life member with the club and joined in 1948. I'm sure many will remember her. Don't forget we'll be jurying again at the end of this month. If the quality of work shown at Park Royal is any indication our jurors will have a challenging task once again. The forms are enclosed with this newsletter. You may submit up to 4 paintings. Keep in mind that the highest scoring paintings from this jurying will also be used for the Harmony Arts Festival exhibition. You should be aware that Harmony Arts will be charging 30% commission on any sales so you need to price your paintings accordingly. Vice-cPresident Lorne `Top 11am 604-922-7225 wtopharn@shaw.ca Edith Warner and I had a meeting with Richard Berg, Director of the Harmony Arts Festival, on March 25th. For our participation in the Festival, they will provide the tent, including its erection and take down, power and lighting and 24 hour Security on a grassy lot, three lots east of the Silk Purse. The dates are Friday, July 30th to Sunday, August 8th. The opening ceremony is at the Ferry Building starting at 5PM Friday with music and refreshments. The daily operating hours will be from 10:00AM to 8:00PM. The paintings for the show will be selected at the April 30th jurying based on the jurors' marks, as the number is limited due to the size of the venue. We will select one painting per Artist for the Festival Show and if it is sold or otherwise unavailable, no substitutions will be allowed. Artists chosen will be assessed a $20.00 fee to cover the cost of the reception and any paintings sold will be subject to a 30% commission payable to Harmony Arts. The Club wifi waive its 10% commission. The number of paintings has yet to be determined, as Richard is going to measure our panels and draw up a plan and a cost analysis. He seemed confident that Harmony could handle the costs but left it open in case he had to come back to the Club for financial assistance. He indicated that Harmony Arts T-Shirts and name tags would be provided to the Volunteers at the Show. Harmony Arts has agreed to our participation on a trial basis so we need the support of all our members to make it a success, and to ensure we will become a regular participant each summer.
