Lynn joined the club in 1980 and made many friends as well as contributing greatly to our organization. She will be much missed. Our community library donations this year will be made in her name. Many thanks to Helen Ott and her committee for puffing on a wonderful Christmas party in December. Special thanks to our Santa Richard Sharp, and to Dolly Lade for all the wonderful eats. It was a terrific evening. - At our last meeting we had 98 members attending really terrific to see such a turnout. However it is certainly posing some difficulties for our audience to be able to see the demonstration. At February's meeting we will be trying something new to try to increase visibility for all. Hopefully it will help. -- Also, before you know it, it will be time to think of finding members for next year's executive and committees. Please start giving it some thought now and, if there is a position you might be interested in or want more information about, do let myself or Heather Luccock know. Our organization is run by volunteers and getting involved is a great way to get to know people and to participate more in our activities. Our Web Site is really coming along wonderfully 20 new members have signed up recently. If you haven't looked at I really encourage you to do so. Some of our artists are getting wonderful feedback on their pages. With the options that Larry has presented us for getting involved it should be feasible for many more of us to use the site to display our work. THANK YOU LARRY! Note as well that the voting for our Logo contest was held at our January meeting and you can now see the winning logo on this newsletter. It was done by Larry Achtemichuk. - Eiucation Joan cFraser 604-922-8038 Our demonstration for the February meeting wifi be by Josanne Van Hees. Be reminded that Josanne will also be holding our next workshop in oils on February 28-29 at Klee Wyck. Josanne has been a painter and teacher for over 30 years. Her work has been exhibited throughout BC, Alberta and Washington and with the Royal Society of British Artists in London, and is held in private collections throughout the world. "I paint for the love of expression and the total sense of reverence for, and wonder of, what I see and sense in the physical world. It is a paradox and a challenge. What I see and feel is more than what I paint and what I paint is more than what I see and feel. The gift for me to share is this, as well as my technical knowledge, with my students, who become my teachers." The workshop will cover composition, design and colour as basics woven throughout the class. What do you want to paint and why? Handling the paint, getting strong darks and clear colour, blending, putting paint down and leaving it! West Coast Patterns by Josanne Van Hees
