As I mentioned at the last meeting, we had some concerns raised in the past about people being able to copy images of our works from the website. The Club website will have a mechanism in place, in the form of a transparent "window" that covers each image, which will prevent this copying. Also, some members were concerned about having their e-mail addresses on the website. This has also been solved by allowing you to have visitors to your site click on a button to send you an e-mail, without them needing to know your e-mail address, so you can choose to not have it on your site. Given the timing of the workshops, it is still very feasible for new people to "join the party", that is, to sign up for your own website and participate in these preparatory sessions. You should already have basic computer, e-mailing and Internet knowledge. We will help you with the File Handling skills you should have and then you can enroll in the workshops. Just send your cheque for $60 for the charges for the first year to Deb Taylor to sign up for the website and send me an e-mail. Computers for Artists Series So far I have prepared the following papers: #1- Spam what it is and how to manage it. #2- File Handling assuming some basic computer knowledge, how does one create, save, find and work with ifies on a computer? #3 Getting to Digital What are the methods (including but not restricted to digital cameras) of getting images of my paintings into digital form, and onto my computer? What are some causes for Which problems in taking photos of paintings and how to reduce or avoid these problems. problems can be "fixed by editing the images on a computer? #4 Editing Digital Images Once you have digital images of your paintings (or other subjects) in your computer, how can you edit and fix them using software like Adobe Photoshop. This paper will be used in the website preparatory workshop discussed above as reference material. - If you get this newsletter via e-mail, you should have received a copy of #1, and will get a copy of #3 later this week. I sent #2 first to the people who have signed up for a website, but if any of you would like a copy send me a request via e-mail.
