The present vehicle is the second in the series, having replaced the original one in 1977. During that 20 year span each has been a well--known landmark in West Vancouver, carrying the Library service out to the distant corners of the community or the people who cannot easily visit the main building. Lucille Fisher was our first driver. She epitomized the bright, energetic and helping nature that the service requires and which her successors have shared. When she died of cancer six years ago many of her fans long the Bookmobile route contributed funds .or the establishment of a scholarship in her name at Capilano College. Lauren Henderson built up a fan club of her own during five years as the Bookmobile driver (before accepting a new role in the Children's Department) and Daphne Grisdale for the past year has been doing the same. The driver has to be energetic because the job entails carrying bundles of materials into such locations as Beacon Hill Lodge or WEST VANCOUVER MEMORIAL LIBRARy 1950 Marine Drive West Vancouver B.C.
