We too can have a 1% for public art policy and the visual stimulus in our environment that the 1% money could fund if we elect officials interested in the artistic environment of our communities. Public art enhances the life of a community and brings in visitors as well. Visual Arts Performing Arts Civic Arts Literary Arts North Shore citizens can ring in the N e w Year at a family oriented, alcohol free, public festival of the Arts on December 31,1990 at the complex formed by Centennial Theatre and the North Vancouver Recreation Centre at 21st and Lonsdale. Buses w i l l be running from Park Royal for West Vancouverites and anyone else who wants to leave cars at Park R o y a l . F I R S T N I G H T has been extremely popular since its inception four years ago. N o w it spreads to the suburbs and w i l l have 28 indoor venues and five outdoor venues to see the best in performing arts that Vancouver has to offer. F I R S T N I G H T buttons w i l l go on sale at the North Shore Credit U n i o n and Super V a l u stores in November. A button gets you into any F I R S T N I G H T P E R F O R M A N C E anywhere in the L o w e r Mainland. F I R S T N I G H T needs volunteers on the N o n h Shore. Volunteering for F I R S T N I G H T can take any o f several forms - office help is needed now (at the Hotel Vancouver) and the big night needs people to sell buttons, usher, do crowd control and give info.
