In June the Society received $8000.00 from Heritage BC for this purpose. These funds will support the District of West Vancouver in its commitment to oversee this project and pay half of the expense. The Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans has yet to confirm its financial commitment. Timing on this project is crucial since the Heritage BC grant must be used by June 30th of this year. The Society is cautiously optimistic that the Point Atkinson Tower will be wearing a new coat of red and white by the end of this summer. West Vancouver Archives. Rupert Harrison collection 0383.WVA.RAH Painting of Point Atkinson Lighthouse, July 1928 This will enhance Point Atkinson's role as an aid to navigation, attract the attention of marine traffic entering and leaving Vancouver's harbour and please thousands of annual visitors to Vancouver in general and Lighthouse Park in particular. The tower is as iconic a symbol of West Vancouver as the Lions Gate Bridge and the North Shore mountains. Elaine Graham
