Volunteer Treasurer Needed by the West Vancouver Historical Society Marilyn Rhodes, the Historical Society treasurer for the past several years will be retiring from her position after this spring's Annual General Meeting. She has done an admirable job for the past several years looking after your money. Marilyn has truly enjoyed her role but feels it is time for someone new to take on the task. We need someone to replace her. The position does not require an accountant -- our needs are relatively simple. We require someone who can look after the Society's books, do the banking and pay the bills. Therefore, we ask that a member of the Society who has an interest and possibly a background in keeping the books of a small community group volunteer to help preserve the West Vancouver Historical Society. If you are interested, please let us know at 778-279-2235 or wvhs@shaw.ca so that Marilyn will have a chance to work with you over the upcoming months. Latest on the Blockhouse On Saturday, October 3rd, a volunteer from the film industry sprayed a coat of clear sealer on the interior concrete walls of the Block House. The building is now ready to be converted into an interpretive space on its role during World War II. Documents and photos on the history of the military presence at Point Atkinson can be displayed in this building. Volunteers are needed to help in this process. If you are interested in assisting with the creation of exhibition panels for this room, please call Elaine Graham at 604-925-1071. The next step needs your help. New Members Needed In 1982 we had a membership of over 450, many of them were West Van pioneers. Overtimethe numbers have dropped by attrition to under 300. The Board has established a committee to address this decline. If you would like to join this committee, please contact us at 778-279-2235 or wvhs@shaw.ca. This would be a short term but vital contribution. page 7
