In order to spruce things up a bit he went to California to see how they ran their tracks. He was impressed by their landscaping of the tracks. Back in Vancouver he hired a company to landscape Exhibition Park Race Track. Unfortunately, he did not like their final product which was mostly junipers, dwarf pines and Zabel's laurels resulting in nothing but shades of green. Diamond wanted colour. He sent some of his employees to a wholesale florist to buy artificial flowers which he stuck in the greenery. Not liking this, before the next racing season he hired Holland Landscaping Company, owned by John Filippo, to fix the landscaping and asked for a a jockey crest carpet bed done in real flowers. This was difficult and a search was taken to find someone to complete the task. continued on page 3
