Update on Blockhouse Repainting article and photos by Elaine Graham housed engines to power searchlights east On June 13th and 14th, 2015 contractors with Cranes Construction removed the lead-based paint from the interior of the Block House, a heritage building on the grounds of Point Atkinson lighthouse. Funds for the work were provided equally between the District of West Vancouver and the West Vancouver Historical Society, recipient of an "extraordinary grant" of $1,000 from the West Vancouver Community Foundation. WVHS volunteers can now begin the process of converting the Block House to a museum on the role of the military at Point Atkinson during WW II. WVHS has applied for a grant from Heritage BC to help defray the Society's portion of the cost of painting the Lighthouse Tower It is now in Municipal hands.
