Our Memories - West Van in the 40s, 50s and 60s by David Barker One thing I have noticed while researching the Archives over the past twenty years is that the Archives with the assistance of the Historical Society has done a very good job of preserving the visual and written history of West Vancouver's early the dumping of sawdust in the tidal swamp to make Ambleside Park the black ball smoke pots that were used to warn of road work the Pacific Stage Lines that were the only public transportation west of West Bay · the Hollyburn Pavilion where Arthur Delamont led the West Van Boy's Band · the old cement fort at the mouth of the Capilano · the slough · the old ski lift up Hollyburn that always stopped when you were over the ravine · etc. Do you have memories of these things? Of other things? Can you write down a favourite incident? Do you have a photo that illustrates this time? If so, share them with the future . Tell those to come what West Van was like when you were growing up just as those West Van pioneers did with us. More next issue. days. Those of us who have lived during these past 70 years are now I getting up in years and should start | providing photographs and written · material while it is still "fresh" in our memories. Much has changed in West Van over the post war years. Park Royal, B.C. Ferries, the Upper Levels Highway, the P.G.E., the growth and changing demographics - all have altered the character and life of the community. Yet the evidence of this found in the Archives is spotty and limited to a few influences.
