MARCH 2015 THE WEST VANCOUVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY VOL. 32, NO.1 BBQ Back by Popular Demand The Historical Society's Annual Summer Barbecue will be back this summer We received many comments after we were forced by circumstances to cancel it last year The Society's Board has formed a committee consisting of Pam Dalik, Barb Hunter, Wendy Topham, Ann Brousson, and Elaine Graham to plan this event. If you would like to assist, contact any of them via the Society's email or phone. Summer BBQ to Return 2015 Membership Fees are Due It's that time of the year again -- the Society's membership fees are due. The $20 contribution is the only sure money the Society has to conduct its business. Membership fees pay the rent, phone, internet, postage, printing of "Memories", and other everyday costs. Since the Society is a non-profit we do not hold much of a rainy day fund. Historical Society Now on Facebook We have just set up a Facebook Page. Go to Facebook and look for West Vancouver Historical Society The page has just been set up so we are still in the learning stages. Our page will promote upcoming events, display historical photographs of West Vancouver and encourage posting of personal memories of living and growing up in West Vancouver Please feel free to contribute. "Arrivals and Departures" Selling W e l l Over 750 of the 1200 books have been sold. The remaining 450 will continue to be sold at the retailers listed in the last issue of "Memories". Over $11,000 has been collected of date.The success of "Arrivals" will lead to further books on West Van Vancouver's history This popular event will once again be held for members, "Cottages to Community" Sold Out! their families and friends. Exact Over 3,000 copies of our salute to West Vancouver's Centennial have been sold. The profits are being given in grants to the West Vancouver Archives, Library and Museum to preserve our history. details to be decided. 3
